FAQ — Beach Haven SUP EcoTour
Do I need paddleboarding experience to join the Beach Haven SUP ecotour?
No experience needed. The tour takes place on Barnegat Bay, which is calm and protected — ideal for first-timers. Our SUP guides walk everyone through the basics before you leave the launch point, so you’ll feel comfortable on the board before you’re on open water.
What is the minimum age for the SUP ecotour?
Participants must be at least 7 years old. The calm bay environment makes this accessible for kids, but the minimum age of 7 ensures everyone can follow instructions, paddle effectively, and stay safe throughout the tour.
Do participants need to know how to swim?
Yes — swimming ability is required. The bay is calm, and everyone wears a life jacket, but all participants need to be comfortable in the water in the event of a fall.
What if I fall off the paddleboard?
It happens — and it’s not a problem. All participants wear a life jacket, and our guides are CPR-certified and ready to assist anyone who goes in. You’ll be back on your board quickly.
Where does the ecotour go? How long does it take?
The tour launches from Pearl Street at the bay in Beach Haven and takes you out to Mordecai Island and through the surrounding coves. The full experience runs about 1 hour and 45 minutes at a relaxed, unhurried pace.
What wildlife can we expect to see on the Barnegat Bay?
Barnegat Bay is one of the richest estuaries on the East Coast. On a typical tour, you’re likely to spot ospreys, great blue herons, egrets, turtles, rays, and occasionally dolphins. Sightings vary by season, but there’s almost always something worth pausing for.
Are life jackets provided and required?
Yes to both. Life jackets are provided and required for every participant, no exceptions.
Can we book the ecotour for a bachelorette party or a large group?
Absolutely. Tours accommodate up to 12 people, with group pricing that scales down as your headcount grows — $50 per person for groups of 6 to 8, and $45 per person for groups of 9 to 12. Call us at (609) 492-8823 for custom event arrangements.
What should I wear for the paddleboard ecotour?
A swimsuit or athletic clothing that can get wet. Bring sunscreen, a towel, and sunglasses with a strap. Footwear that you don’t mind getting wet is helpful at the launch. We provide the board, paddle, and life jacket.
Where do we meet? How do we get there?
Check in at our shop at 220 S Bay Ave, Beach Haven, at least 15 minutes before your tour. The tour itself launches from Pearl Street at the bay.
What happens if the weather or wind conditions are bad on tour day?
We monitor conditions closely and will contact you if we need to reschedule. Our 100% Positive Experience Guarantee backs every booking.
How many people can join a single tour?
Up to 12 participants per tour, guided at a 5:1 paddler-to-instructor ratio. For groups larger than 12, contact us to arrange a multi-session event.
