Top 7 Things to Do in LBI After a Fun Surf Session

Long Beach Island on the Jersey Shore is a surf haven for both casual surfers and more dedicated surfers alike—whatever your speed, you’ll be sure to catch some waves along the scenic coastline. Of course, if you’re looking to learn how to surf, there are plenty of surfing rentals in the area, like South End Surf N’ Paddle, which offers surfboard and paddleboard rentals as well as lessons for all ages and skill levels. Located in Beach Haven, you’ll be able to go right from the shopping strip to the beach, hang out on the sand with your family, and catch waves in the Atlantic. After a day in the sun, though, you’ll be sure to want to cool off with a nice drink in a local cafe, or, if you’re not too tired, do some sightseeing around the area! Here are some tremendous after-surf-sesh activities to do in LBI.

1. Visit a Local Café or Beachfront Restaurant

Crêperie De La Mer & French Café is one of Beach Haven’s many cafes, offering a variety of drinks and food options. Relax with an iced coffee and a savory post-surf crepe, or head to Jersey Girl Grill, a dog-friendly spot with delicious sandwiches. If you’re craving something sweet and want to cool off, Smallcakes offers ice cream and cupcakes!

2. Take a Scenic Bike Ride

Besides surfing rentals, there are a handful of bike rental places in Beach Haven, like A J’s Rentals or Acme Beach and Bike. Bike around the area or take a more scenic route and head along the coastline with views of the ocean and populated beaches.

3. Visit Barnegat Lighthouse

The Barnegat Lighthouse is one of Beach Haven’s historical sites; it was one of the most important navigational points for ships bound for and from New York Harbor. Now, there’s a skate park beside it, and you can also go inside and walk to the top of it for a beautiful view of the coast.

4. Fantasy Island Amusement Park

This is a seasonal park with all of the expected attractions in an amusement park, like the Ferris wheel, a variety of other carnival rides, street food, and more. You could spend the day here, or if you’re still looking for active things to do after you’ve surfed a while, it’s an excellent option for the entire family.

5. Long Beach Island Historical Museum

The LBI Historical Museum offers well-curated exhibits covering the area’s history dating back to the 1800s. It’s a great way to educate yourself on the rich cultural history of the area. There are new exhibits every season and even workshops and lectures to attend if you time it right!

6. Local Shops and Boutiques

Long Beach, of course, has a bunch of local shops and boutiques to browse. Swimsuits, clothes, surfing/paddleboarding gear, trendy tchotchke shops, and more are found mainly in the Bay Village or in Schooner’s Wharf, which is closest to Beach Haven by foot.

7. Enjoy the Beach!

The most natural option after a long day in the waves is to relax, sit back in your beach chair, and enjoy the sandy beach. LBI has so many things to do, but there’s nothing wrong with wanting to just do anything at all, especially on your Long Beach vacation.
